A spacious, and intimately recorded 50min piece, 'the second sky' marks the first studio-recorded hymn release.

Recorded with Tom Moore on a sunny day in Yaxham, Norfolk, 'the second sky' is an extended piece composed by Chris Dowding, with the core trio of hymn plus two guests - violinist Sylvia Hallett and sound artist Oliver Payne.

Luminous textures alternate with melodic passages, with solo spaces along the way for double bassist George McKay and Chris' processed trumpets. Elsewhere, electronics textures intermingle alongside surging violins...

The project is enhanced by artwork by Paul Levy, with 4 images made in response to the main piece, plus a fifth for a shorter piece, 'the settled sigh'. The images are available as limited edition prints, with the digital release included.
