about

hymn is group from Norwich led by trumpeter and workshop leader Chris Dowding. The group features a core trio of Chris (trumpets & electronics), George McKay (double bass) and David Ross (percussion & electronics).

The group also plays with guests and improvised configurations, which have included violinist and improviser Sylvia Hallett and vinyl improviser Graham Dunning.

This recording documents our first performance with an extended hymn line-up, with guests, in a gig at the Camouflage contemporary jazz night in Norwich, with the group comprising:

Chris Dowding (trumpets & electronics)
Sylvia Hallett (violin, bicycle wheel, saw & electronics
George McKay (double bass)
Graham Dunning (vinyl, objects & electronics)
David Ross (electronics)

We hope you enjoy this extended hymn arrangement. Thanks to Graham Lee (co-organiser of Listen! in Cambridge) for this photo, which inspired the piece, and became the cover.

Many thanks to Paul Keeler for the inspired mixing...
